Face Powder Paper by Yojiya (Kyoto)

Yojiya is one of many longstanding, traditional family businesses in Kyoto. Founded in 1904 it specialises in high quality beauty products and tools, applying traditional craftsmanship and artisanry from Kyoto.

Their core products, facial oil blotting papers (called Aburatorigami in Japanese), were developed in 1920, and soon were popular with actresses in the newly formed film industry and the women working in Gyon, the notorious red light district, especially in Kyoto’s hot, sweltering summers.

Face Powder Papers are a bit more than the average oil-absorbing blotting papers.

Infused with hyaluronic acid it slightly plumps the skin and the sheer powder coating freshens the complexion and evens the skin tone.

The paper Yojiya uses for the blotting sheets is a by-product of the famous gold-leaf making process and was highly prized by aristocratic women.
